Greetings! I am a Black trans non-binary author, activist and public speaker on gender and sexual diversity in culture, politics, race, feminism and representation in media. I am also creator of the hashtags #TransCrowdFund, #DisabilityCrowdFund and #FemCrowdFund, social media initiatives to redistribute wealth and provide economic stability to marginalized individuals. The tags have received media coverage from The Mary Sue, The Billfold, The FADER, NYLON, BGD Press and The Black Youth Project—published by the University of Chicago.
Last year my employer announced they would be opening a new branch in Texas and possibly shutting down their location in California, which would have left me unemployed. I tried to scramble to see if I could relocate but that fizzled out. Luckily, while they did in fact open their Texas branch, they have maintained their location here in California as well. Furthermore, as a result of COVID19, I am now a permanent remote employee which means I have nothing to fear from becoming unemployed as I can work anywhere in the country. This presents a unique opportunity for me to relocate without any pressure.
My only hurdle is financial. I currently have $18,000.00 in loans. I live paycheck to paycheck which makes making ends meet nearly impossible (primarily due to the cost of housing here in California). In fact, I honestly would not have survived up to this point without regular financial assistance from Twitter users across the country. If my goal is met, I would be able to get out of debt completely (while helping some family members do the same) and either 1) possibly find more affordable housing here in California [highly unlikely], or most likely 2) relocate to Vegas where housing is infinitely more affordable and where I would be close to immediate family. Leaving my current (hostile) living situation also means leaving almost everything I have behind and starting over from scratch. There are other details I cannot discuss publicly motivating my desire to relocate and why I am in such a bottleneck situation financially. If you would like details, please contact me privately. In order to make this transition successful I would need to raise the full amount requested. To do so, 3,000 people would need to contribute just $20 each.
I understand this is a lot of ask for during a pandemic but that is also the exact reason I feel its necessary to do this now. Although I am teetering on the edge, I've been doing so for a decade now and can continue to do so if I absolutely have to. However, that runs the risk of never getting out of this situation or becoming worse off and I would not be making this request if other avenues were available (ie, consolidation/bankruptcy, etc) that would not lessen my chances of changing residences. That being said, If you would prefer giving financial assistance to someone with more critical needs, I wholeheartedly encourage you to search the above hashtags. You may even consider splitting your donation amount between myself and another person. Thank you for your consideration.
